Norman Michael Pharr, age 80, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on April 13, 2020, after a brief illness at the Mobile Infirmary. He was born on December 20, 1939, in Rayne, Louisiana, the son of the late Milton Bert Pharr and Helena Besse Pharr.
Norman was a graduate of Immaculata Minor Seminary in Lafayette, Louisiana, and attended Catholic University in Washington, DC. He was a parishioner and longtime Lector at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile. Norman was a past board member of the Historic Mobile Preservation Society and remained active in his local Church Street East Community.
Prior to moving to Mobile, Norman was a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, with his partner in life and business, Bill Christian. Together they formed the interior design firm of Christian-Pharr Designs which worked on projects throughout the United States. Along the way, they formed many lasting friendships. They especially enjoyed traveling. Norman’s massive collection of frogs began in the Far East. And whether it was racing a rickshaw through the streets of Burma or floating past the Notre Dame Cathedral with the blessings of a sealskin coat on a cold and windy River Seine, their adventures have brightened an untold number of cocktail conversations over the years.
Norman is survived by his partner in living, Bill Christian of Mobile; one sister, Margaret Pharr Zaunbrecher of Rayne, Louisiana; one brother, Milton Pharr of Lake Charles, Louisiana; loving nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends.
A Memorial Mass will be announced at a future date once things return to normal following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com for the Pharr family.
