Norman Leon Salas, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 20th. Leon was born on October 27, 1935, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma. He met and married the love of his life, Frances Lucille Salas, on November 14, 1956. Upon marrying, the pair moved to Phoenix, Arizona before permanently relocating to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to family. Leon and Lucille raised five sons together: Kenneth, Ralph, Charles, Darren, and Michael. Leon was a joyful character, and he never met a stranger. He loved making others laugh, and anyone in his company would do just that. He enjoyed going to Walmart to talk with the cashiers and friends he made. He liked being busy and he could build anything. He enjoyed making windchimes. His favorite past times were riding around going junking. He would always find the most original pieces. He liked to bake cakes and make biscuits and gravy. If you’ve had them, you’re tasting them now. The thing he loved most about those home cooked meals was having family and friends come over and gathering in his home. He was the champion of dominoes. His morning happy was his coffee, a must have. He loved animals and would feed racoons and possums from his back porch. He liked going fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; son, Charles; daughter, Rebecca; parents; and sisters and brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are his four sons: Kenneth (Vicki) Salas, Ralph “Lawrence” (Carol) Salas, Darren Salas, and Michael (Heather) Salas; grandchildren, Rebeka (Gus) Taylor, Kayla (Lee) Jenkins, Ryan Salas, Gregory (Kristin) Salas, Amanda Salas, Anthony (Christina) Salas, Ashely (Andrew) Marcantonio, Aaron Salas, Brianna (Casey) Burton, Nikoli Salas, Joey (Whitney) Lambeth, Jeremy (Brianna) Lambeth, Jesse Salas, and Logan (Kristen) Salas; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Leon will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a graveside service immediately following.
