Osmond Rudolph Boutwell Jr was the only child of Ossie and Orgita Boutwell. Born on March 16, 1943, Rudy passed away on January 6, 2024. He and Emily, his wife of 57 years, had two daughters, Susan Boutwell Cannon (Neil Wilroy) and Mary Len Boutwell Deupree (Chip). Rudy’s grandchildren, Truston, Kate and Carlen Cannon and Bryce Deupree will miss listening to stories while playing cards with Papa. Rudy attended Little Flower Catholic School through eighth grade, graduated from McGill Institute and Georgia Tech. After returning from Army deployment on Okinawa in 1968, he joined his parents in the family restaurant business, Ossie’s Bar-B-Que. When that closed, he kept busy in various business enterprises.
Rudy helped found Holy Spirit Anglican Church and served as Senior Warden and then Treasurer for many years. His faith was an integral part of his life and he loved his Lord, his family and his friends. An avid golfer most of his life, Rudy also enjoyed watching football and golf on TV. He played a terrific game of gin and enjoyed many, many afternoons playing with his Skyline, then Heron Lakes, buddies. His passing will leave a vacant spot in many lives and places.
Visitation will be at Pine Crest Funeral Home from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on January 13, 2024. A memorial service will be held at Holy Spirit Anglican Church on January 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Spirit Anglican Church, 2020 Leroy Stevens Road, Mobile AL 36695 or Victory Health, 3750 Professional Parkway, Mobile AL 36609.
