Patricia Ann (Baker) Reeves, lovingly known to many as Pat, Patricia, Aunt Pat, Beach Pat, and Ms. Reeves, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama. She was born on December 15, 1943, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the second child of Dorothy Mae (Mount) and Neal Allen Baker, Sr.
Patricia excelled as both a student and athlete throughout her early education. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and the Convent of Mercy in Mobile, AL, as well as Our Lady of Victory in Pascagoula, MS. Her lifelong love of sports and learning led her to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where she earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master's degree in Education.
While at Ole Miss, Patricia met her former husband and later moved to Scottsboro, Alabama. There she formed a lifelong friendship with mentor and dear friend Alice Roberts, who encouraged Patricia to pursue nursing. Answering that call, Patricia earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Huntsville and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Patricia and Alice eventually became colleagues at Bevill State Community College in Jasper, Alabama. She taught pharmacology and psychology in the nursing program, served as Division Chair of Health Sciences for the Jasper and Sumiton campuses, and briefly held the role of Interim Associate Dean of Health Sciences before retiring. Throughout her nursing career, she educated, mentored, and inspired countless students, including a few of her nieces: Michelle (Finch) Pickford, Melanie Finch, and Megan (Baker) Hines.
Family was the center of Patricia’s life. Following the death of her brother, Neal Allen Baker, Jr., she stepped in to help her parents raise, educate, and provide for his children. Although she had no biological children, Patricia lovingly raised Mark Allen Baker and Laura (Baker) Fewell as her own.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Neal Allen Baker, Jr. and Lonnie W. Baker; great-niece and great-nephews; as well as her beloved friend Alice Roberts. She is survived by her sister Linda Finch (Mickey) of Poquoson, Virginia; Alyne Margaret Baker of Mobile, Alabama; Mary Lou Ankersen (Vernon) of Mobile, AL; and her brother John Brarily Baker (Rick McGowan) of Mobile, Alabama. She also leaves behind a large and loving family of nieces and nephews: Laura Fewell, Mark Baker, Michelle Pickford, Monica Markley, Melanie Finch, Jeremy Ankersen, Lindsey Ankersen Brabner, Corey Ankersen, William Baker, Nicholas Baker, Timothy Baker, and Megan Baker Hines, as well as many great-nieces and nephews and great great-nieces and nephews.
The final five years of Patricia’s life were marked by Alzheimer’s disease, but she continued to live fully and joyfully in the loving care of her sister Alyne, first in New Orleans, Louisiana and later in Mobile, Alabama. During her time in Mobile, she spent much time enjoying her siblings, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She also formed friendships in the Oakleigh Garden District where she became a beloved member of a neighborhood ladies group that met weekly. Together, they shared many happy moments in Washington Square, at Callaghan’s, and in one another’s homes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Patricia’s name to "Friends of Washington Square," a registered 501(c)(3)non-profit in Mobile, Alabama, or to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of Alabama.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
