Ralph Donald Hargrove

Don was born on January 14, 1937, in Mobile, AL to Inez Slay Hargrove and Ralph Calhoun Hargrove. He is survived by his wife, Janet Bennett Hargrove; son, Ralph David Hargrove; granddaughters, Lexi Hargrove and Cali Hargrove; great granddaughters, Grace Gibson and Sarah Zorn.

Don graduated from Vigor High School where he earned a scholarship in Track and Field to attend The University of Alabama. It is there he obtained a degree in Education. Upon graduation, he returned to teach and coach at Vigor High School for three years. In 1963, Don married Janet and began building their beautiful family.

Don was known for his unwavering faithfulness to Christ, love for his family and generous heart. He enjoyed watching Alabama football, reading, fishing, playing golf, and most of all, lounging on his boat with family and friends. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

At the time of his death, Don had just completed 61 years of employment as an agent for State Farm Insurance, acquiring many friends along the way. A special thanks to Ginger Allen and to Dott Robinson, now deceased, for their many years of devotion. Don’s dedication and hard work were an inspiration to all who knew him.

After many years of care by Dr. Martin Lester and Mobile’s Diagnostic and Medical Clinic, Don passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.

The funeral will be June 27, 2024, 12:30pm, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 4980 St. Vincent Dr., Mobile, AL, officiated by Fr. Stephen Vrazel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of their choice.

Don will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness and selflessness.
