Rita Elizabeth Evans

Rita was born February 19, 1939, to Leroy and Rita Scheuermann. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1957 and graduated from Springhill College in 1962 with a degree in Sociology. She was a faithful teacher to the Parochial School Systems of Mobile for 33 years until her retirement. She set a tremendous example of faith, love and strength of character, and was a source of inspiration to all who knew her. She loved reading, cooking, sewing, and gardening, and she had a tremendous love for dogs. Rita met the love of her life, Thomas, and they were married for 56 wonderful years until her passing.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 56 years; Thomas Evans, Children; Victoria Powell, and Christopher Evans, grandchildren; Dr. Elizabeth M. Powell, and Grace M. Powell, and many other family and friends that will miss her deeply.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; Leroy and Rita Scheuermann.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 2pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mobile, with a visitation one hour before the mass. Rita will be entombed at Pine Crest Cemetery Mausoleum in Mobile, AL.
