
Rosemary Hallett Ogburn, born March 31, 1919 a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 12, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents, Winthrop Marston Hallett and Lena Donovan Hallett; her husband, Alexander Paterson Ogburn; her sister, Joan Hallett Self; her brother, Winthrop Marston Hallett, Jr.; and her grandson, Russell John Ogburn.
She is survived by her children: Alexander Paterson Ogburn, Jr. (Julie), Rosemary Ogburn McGowin (W. Stephen), David Winthrop Ogburn and Richard Hallett Ogburn (Chera). She will be missed by her grandchildren: Rosemary McGowin Corte (Jay), Alexandra Winthrop McGowin, Alexander Paterson Ogburn, III (Kelley), Julie Alexandria “Annie” Ogburn van Aller (Hans), Sarah Ogburn Cornette (Matthew), Richard Hallett Ogburn, Jr., Alexandra Marie Ogburn, Erin Reece Ogburn and eight great grandchildren.
She was a devoted wife and mother and known affectionately as “Mimi” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Catholic Church as well as a member of the Junior League of Mobile, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and several mystic societies.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers: Sarah Turnipseed, who has worked for the family for over fifty years; Laura Sincere; and Katherine Morrisette.
A private mass and graveside service for family will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, followed by a visitation at Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway from 11:00 AM until Noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604; St. Ignatius Parish, 3704 Springhill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36608; or the charity of your choice.
