Mrs. Sadie Burke Douglas, age 90, native of Mobile, AL, went to her heavenly home on Friday, May 28, 2021. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 70 years, Sam Douglas, son, Tim Wesley Douglas, parents, Kelley and Vesta Trussell Burke, brother, Kelley Burke, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lisa DeMouy Douglas.
We cannot express how sweet, gentle and kind our mother Sadie (Sid) Douglas was to everyone she met.
She was a devoted wife to our father and stood beside him for over 70 years. She raised three sons; Kelley, Steve and Tim who all adored her. She loved her children and was very active in facilitating their various interests and activities. She was also loved by Karen, her grand and great-grandchildren as well as her sister Helen and nieces and nephews. She and dad did their utmost to make welcome anyone who ever visited, and I am sure they created many fond memories for their guests. Many of their guests will remember fun trips to their beach house, boat rides and cookouts.
She was employed as a paralegal for many years. She also worked with the Probate, Circuit and Federal Court systems here in Mobile. She was highly intelligent and continued her education throughout her career. Upon retirement she enjoyed reading and travelling. She was a nature lover and loved to feed the wild animals in her yard. She had several turtles that resided on her patio.
While she was a quiet and reserved person, she had a wonderful and sly sense of humor. We will miss her sweet smile.
Our mother was a Christian and had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. While we are saddened that she has left us temporarily, it is comforting to know she is reunited with my dad who departed four years ago.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Luke 4:18 Fellowship, 2664 Sollie Road. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
