Sherrell Bufford McAdams, stepped through the heavenly gates with Jesus on Sunday, December 22, 2019. He was born August 21, 1939 to Dodson Mayo and Ruby Rye McAdams in Sulligent, Al and grew up in Satsuma, AL. Sherrell proudly served in the U. S. Army with the 77th Transportation Unit. The men remained a strong unit after serving; rejoicing at reunions and mourning when there was a loss of a fellow “brother”. After serving, Sherrell returned to Satsuma, AL to begin a career in the construction business. Eventually, he became the owner and operator of McAdams Contracting. He was the largest Durock contractor in his district. In 1992, he was nominated and won the CEO Award. Sherrell was part of the reconstruction of the Battle House of Mobile, which was a “labor of love”, not just another job to him.
His passion was building racing engines for go carts. Three times he was awarded “Engine Builder of the Year”. His engines won the “A Class” championship eight times. His favorite past times were watching car races, working in the yard with his wife, playing with his dog and spending time with friends and family. He touched so many lives with his kindness, intelligence, wits and sense of humor. Sherrell will be greatly missed and will always be remembered. Sherrell was not only a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was a leader, a mentor and example for all to follow.
He is survived by his devoted, loving wife and best friend of over 30 years, Linda L. McAdams and his trusted four legged protector, Short Stop. He is also survived by his family: Michael (Laryssa) McAdams, Kyle McAdams, Rhonda (Clyde) Zornes, Sherry K. Cross, Britanny McAdams, Chase David Cross, Maxine Gentile, Kara Adams, Dana Madey, Steven Zornes, Bobby Cross Ill, Monica Madey, 14 great-grandchildren, his four brothers: Shelby (Inga) McAdams, James (Connie) Swartz, Bill (Karen) Swartz, Roy Swartz, along with many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. Special friends, Marion and Jill Hawkins (like a brother), Ryan and Kim Faircloth (like a son), Mary Andrianopoulos, Melba Banning and Loretta Stevens also survive him. Thank all of you, we would not know what we would do without friends like you.

Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Bay Minette, 120 West Second Street, Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saraland, AL.
Pallbearers will be: Marion Hawkins, Ryan Faircloth, Chase David Cross, Ethan Faircloth, Bobby Ray Merchant and Junior Dahlem.
