

Dr. Jordan attended Birmingham-Southern College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts. She then graduated from University of Louisiana Monroe and was awarded a Masters of Education, followed by an Educational Specialist Degree, and finally became a Doctor of Education. She had a long and rewarding career in education which included Elementary Education, Gifted Programs, and Supervisor of Special Education Instruction. She retired from Monroe, Louisiana Public School System. During these years of fulfilling her passion to teach children, and then post retirement, Shirley was a 60-year active member of the teaching sorority Alpha Delta Kappa.
Dr. Jordan is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Ray Jordan; and sister, Madelyn Palmiter Royal.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, John Frederick Jordan, Richard Keith (Tracy) Jordan, and Rose Jordan (Thomas) West; and grandchildren, Jared Brandon West, Jason Patrick West, Emily Jordan Potter (Timothy), Maggie Jordan Williams (Kweisi), Elliana Monique Jordan, Anne Bullock Jordan, and John Cavenagh Jordan; and great-grandson Mateo Malik Williams.
A visitation will be held for Dr. Jordan on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605 from 5 PM to 7PM. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 8271 Whispering Pines Rd. Daphne, AL 36526 from 10AM to 11 AM with a service at 11 AM. Interment will follow the service at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605.
In lieu of flowers, Dr. Jordan requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 53 Perimeter Center E Suite 100, Atlanta, Georgia 30346.
