Slater Smith

Mr. Slater Smith, born in Gilbertown, Alabama, July 10, 1918, died October 23, 2013, at a local healthcare facility. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.F. and Callie Smith, his first wife, Hazel G. Smith, his grandson Martin Dean Smith, and his second wife, Lois Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed watching football, having played at Southern Choctaw High School in Silas, Alabama. Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Mary (Richard) Lasseter and Vivian Brown, two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; also nieces LaVan C. Dunkerly, LaVern C. Murphy, Barbara U. Robson, nephews Benjamin Conner and Tommie Conner (Pat), and other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to Crowne Health Care of Mobile for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin St., from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m, Saturday, October 26. 2013. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
