Dr. Stephen Blair Schneider, DVM, of Mobile, AL, departed to be greeted in his eternal home on Friday, January 2nd, 2026. Steve, as he was affectionately known, passed on his 72nd birthday, surrounded by the love of immediate family. Steve was a blessing born to Arthur and Louise Schneider in Dallas, Texas, in 1954.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, faith, and compassion that touched the hearts of family members and friends, as well as the lives of innumerable beloved pets entrusted to his care. Steve possessed a selfless heart for service that was readily on display throughout his life, from the tender warmth his loved ones knew to the benevolence of his veterinary care and his charitable generosity that impacted countless others.
Steve is survived and will be forever cherished by his loving wife Genie Schneider, his daughter Meredith Schneider, Meredith’s husband Brian Collins, his son Devin Schneider, and his adored granddaughter Maya Schneider. Steve will also be deeply missed by his beloved stepsons Shawn Kerr and Steve Cole, his dear brother Donald Schneider, his cousins, and a host of friends and colleagues impacted deeply by his love. His rambunctious Yorkshire terrier, Joy, will certainly miss her father’s tender cuddles. Steve is preceded in death by his first wife and mother to Meredith and Devin, Deborah Booth Schneider as well as his devoted parents, Arthur and Louise.
A graduate of the Texas A&M Veterinary School, Steve devoted his life to the care of God’s creatures. Relocating to Mobile upon earning his DVM, he provided thoughtful veterinary care for more than 40 years, bringing healing to the hearts of many a pet owner. Steve continued to commit himself in retirement serving as a delegate to the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association Executive Committee, a member of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association Legislative Committee and a member of the Mobile Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board.
Steve spent his golden years relishing in the love of his family, traveling the world seeking new adventures with his wife Genie, and continuing to expose his heart of service. In recent years, Steve continued to give of himself serving in a multitude of ministries at his church, taking on the role of Treasurer for Maryknoll Place HOA, and building homes for those in need through Habitat for Humanity.
Steve’s family invites you to join in a Celebration of Life and Legacy at a graveside service on Saturday, January 24th, at Pine Crest West in Mobile, AL beginning at 2:00 p.m.
