Vernon O. Capps, Jr., a resident of Coden, AL, and native of Whistler, AL, passed away July 24, 2014. Vernon was a loving husband, a wonderful father, a great brother, the greatest grandfather, and a friend to all that knew him. He loved life, enjoyed family time, fishing on his boat, and Nascar. He retired from the Southern Company, a part of Alabama Power, after 32 years of service. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Capps, his son Cameron Capps, 3 step children Kimberly Sanford, C. Paul Slauson, Sean Slauson and 2 grandchildren Madyson Sanford and Wyatt Slauson, two sisters Agnes (Leo) Strachan and Elaine (Don) Wright and nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored. He was preceded in death by his father Vernon O. Capps, Sr. (former Mayor of Prichard); mother Ruby (Tillman) Capps, brother Cecil Capps of Orange Beach, AL, and sister Patsy Lidgard of Ocean Springs, MS. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, from the chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Al 36605. Visitation will begin at noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
