He served his country honorably in the United State Army and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 164, serving as a past Commander and a member of the Honor Guard. He was employed for over 37 years until his retirement with Olin Chemical Plant. He was a loving husband, dad, pawpaw and brother. Willie was a fan of Nascar, enjoying watching and going to races. He was an diehard Alabama football fan, avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He will be remembered as the "life of the party" and always enjoyed a "good time". He loved spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother Christine Smith Pruette, grandparents Frank and Martha Smith, brother George Edward Weir, stepdaughter-in-law, Jessica Amison and granddaughter Lyndsey Kate Amison.
Willie is survived by his loving and devoted wife Audrey Amison Smith, daughter Jennifer Smith (Brett) Anderson, stepdaughter Misty Amison (Jerry) White, stepsons Clay Amison and Shawn Amison, grandchildren, Hudson, Kristy, Cameron, Braxton, Layla and Matt, great-granddaughters Zoey, Aubrey and Kennedy. His sisters Patricia (Ray) Alford, Charlotte Tolbert and Joanie (Danny) Tolbert and uncle Kenny (Ann) Smith, who was considered a brother, numerous family members and friends also survive him.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with funeral services in the chapel immediately following. Interment will be held in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama at 2:00 p.m.
