

Doris M. Fields nee McCracken, age 94, of Columbia City, IN, formerly Wilmington, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024. She is survived by her loving son, Russell A. (Christine) Fields III; cherished grandchildren: Russell A. (Lauren) Fields IV, Amanda Fields, Caitlyn Linder. Britany Moss, and Jacob Moss; dear great grandson, Owen Toth, and siblings: Juanita Pittman, Marjorie Hilliard, Katherine Wood, Richard McCracken and Loretta Gill. Doris is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Preceded in death by her parents: Ralph and Dorothy McCracken; loving husband, Russell A. Fields, Jr.; daughter, Kimberly A. Fields-Uskokovic and son-in-law, Zoran Uskokovic.
Doris married her husband, Russell A Fields, Jr. in 1957 in Abeline, KS. They loved to travel, and she was proud to say she had visited 48 states and several countries overseas. She worked at and was very active at The United Church of Christ in Sauk Village for several years.
Doris was a fantastic cook and was well known for her epic Christmas cookie trays! She loved football, gardening, crafting, and crocheting. Her latest hobby was hand-sewing Christmas Stockings, having just completed her 150th, which she would gift to numerous family and friends. Family was everything to her.
Doris spent her last 2 years in Columbia City, Indiana enjoying lake life, pontoon rides, and bonfires. She lived a long, good life, and bravely handled whatever life threw her way with grace and acceptance, most recently a cancer diagnosis. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all of us.
