

Born in Ajuy, Iloilo, Philippines to Incarnacion and Serafino Balleza, Pedro was the youngest of six children. He earned his medical degree from Far Eastern University Institute of Medicine in Manila in 1964. In 1965 he married his college and medical school sweetheart, Dr. Cynthia Palabrica. Together, they established a general practice clinic in Dingle, Iloilo, before emigrating to Chicago in 1970.
Dr. Balleza furthered his medical training through an internship at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Chicago. He went on to serve as an anesthesiologist at Resurrection Hospital for more than two decades, touching countless lives through his dedicated patient care.
In retirement, Pedro and Cynthia embraced their free time by traveling with friends and making frequent visits to their children, grandchildren, and extended family across the globe.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Cynthia; his parents; sisters Rosario, Aida, Teresa; and brother Paulino.
He is survived by his children, daughters Christine (Ken) Borromeo, Dynee (Barney) Sheafor, Scarlett (Colin) Fitzgerald, Ginette (Robert) Hughes; son Max; grandchildren Kate, Anna, Morgan, Jordan, Blair, Gordon, Lucinda, Robert, and Skye; and sister Delores Bellosillo.
A Celebration of Life honoring both Pedro and Cynthia will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 2 to 6 pm at Skyline Funeral Home, 24800 S. Governors Hwy, Monee, IL 60449.
