Amelia (Amy) C. Brady passed away on October 25, 2011 at Bridgeport Hospital after a short illness. A native of Hartford, she was the daughter of Carmine and Incornata “Mary” Chiapputo, who had immigrated from Italy just a few years earlier. A woman of great energy and caring, Amy returned to school to first become a Licensed Practical Nurse, and ultimately she became a Registered Nurse. She continued her learning, and eventually served as Head Nurse of several Intensive Care, Cardiac Care and Oncology units.
She loved to cook, and her family fondly remembers many wonderful meals together. While Italian was the obvious specialty, she could produce appetizing meals from many countries. Amy particularly enjoyed the holidays, and at Christmas time tins were piled high and filled with a delightful assortment of treats.
Amy was a wonderfully loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her love of her grandchildren was boundless. “Mimi” was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Matilda and Margaret. She was always excited to hear of their latest adventures, accomplishments and activities. She was a great sport, even if it meant climbing the tree house to sit with her grandchild, or climb into a small airplane for a flight. Their cry for “pasta” – with Mimi’s sauce, of course - was always a welcome one that she loved to entertain.
Amy was the devoted wife of Harold (Gene) Brady and they enjoyed a loving marriage of 57 years. They traveled and explored the US, ventured to Europe several times, as well as Alaska and Hawaii. While building her own successful career, she remained a wonderfully loving mother, and she quietly assisted her husband’s career at F. W. Woolworth’s. Even as her husband became increasingly infirmed in later years, Amy’s efforts supported his desire to stay at home. When Harold finally needed to move to assisted living, Amy remained committed to his care and visited every day that she could.
Amy was just recently predeceased by Harold. She is survived by her sister, Viola, of Avon, CT. She is also predeceased by her brother, Lenny, and sister Jenny, all of whom she cared for deeply. She is survived by her loving son Timothy Brady, daughter-in-law Bernadette, grandchildren Matilda and Margaret, all of Easton. She also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.
