Domenico was born in Tagliacozzo, Italy on March 21, 1928 and was the son of Nazzareno and Agata Liberati. Tagliacozzo is a small hill town in Central Italy in the province of L’Aquila, Abruzzo, known for its beauty and history. Domenico married his wife Silvana, also of Tagliacozzo, in October of 1959. They emigrated to the US in 1960 for a more prosperous life and settled in Yonkers, NY where other family members and fellow townspeople (‘paisani’) from Tagliacozzo had already laid down their roots.
In the years prior to his move to the US, Domenico worked various jobs including as a postal carrier, and a skilled shoemaker. After coming to the US, Domenico worked in the construction field and was a member of the Laborer’s International Union of North America Local 235 for 62 years. He retired in 1990 after 30 years as a Laborer.
Domenico was a simple, quiet and hard-working man. His favorite pastimes included vegetable and flower gardening, hosting barbecues for his family, taking care of his cherished home, reading the Italian newspaper, growing grapes and making wine, basking in the sun, long walks and generally just being outdoors in nature. Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers was probably his favorite place to walk. He loved watching soccer matches and nature programs on TV. He was well known for always having a hearty appetite but was always fit and trim.
Domenico is survived by his wife Silvana (Rampa) of 63 years, his children Patricia (Michael) of Monroe, CT and Angelo (Susan) of Monroe, NY, and his grandchildren Lydia and Alex-- who always brought a smile to his face. He is also survived by his younger brother and friend, Alfredo Liberati in Italy and by several nieces and nephews (Paolo, Annarita, Fulvio, Rose, Annarosa and Vincenzo). He was predeceased by his older sister Rosa Liberati Cortese.
Friends are invited to visitation on Friday, November 4th, 4 - 6pm at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. Entombment to take place on Saturday, November 5th, at 11am at Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum, 50 Jackson Avenue, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
You will be missed--Husband, Papa’, Nonno and Brother. Rest in Eternal Peace.
