Gerry faced Parkinson’s disease and two forms of cancer with remarkable courage and resilience, demonstrating his unwavering determination to embrace life’s challenges with a smile. Even during his most difficult moments, Gerry’s focus remained on his loved ones, always asking for updates about family and friends.
Gerry was born on September 23, 1937 in New Bedford, Massachusetts and attended Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester, MA. Gerry met the love of his life, Janet (Lemire) at Buttonwood Park in New Bedford. He loved to tell the story of how he met her by the monkey cages and that from the moment he saw her, he knew she was the one. They were married on May 31, 1958. Their enduring marriage of over 66 years was one of Gerry’s proudest achievements. He delighted in asking strangers to guess how many years he and Janet had been married, always beaming with pride when their guesses fell short.
Gerry served his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the destroyer USS Samuel B. Roberts. After his naval service, he graduated from UMASS Dartmouth while working full-time and caring for his growing family. In 1964, the Levesque family relocated to Connecticut, where Gerry embarked on a career with the US Government at AVCO Lycoming and then as a purchasing agent for Perkin Elmer for over four decades.
A devoted community member, Gerry was deeply involved with St. Stephen’s Church in Trumbull, where he was active in the Emmaus community. He also dedicated countless hours to the Trumbull Pisces Swim Team, both as a parent board member and a U.S. Swimming official. Gerry could often be seen poolside in his crisp white uniform, even after he no longer had a swimmer on the team.
Gerry was an athlete at heart, enjoying baseball, basketball, hockey, racquetball, and badminton throughout his life. Before his health declined, he loved playing bocce at his community court, even joking that he wanted some of his ashes scattered in the sand there. Gerry’s wit and charm made him beloved by all who knew him. His ability to make everyone feel special and loved leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him. As his family fondly jokes, his passing might even leave a noticeable dent in QVC’s sales.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Hervey and Alice Levesque, and his sister-in-law, Cynthia Levesque. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet; his beloved daughters, Debbie Wasikowski (James Conner), Michele Semosky (Dan), and Nicole Morris (Rob); his cherished brothers, Paul Levesque (Claire) and Roger Levesque; and his treasured grandchildren who he took immense pride in, EJ Wasikowski (Leanna), Carissa Wasikowski, MaryBeth Semosky, Abby Morris, Tyler Morris, and Brady Morris. Gerry also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Gerry’s care team, including Julissa, Lily, and Bernice, as well as the VA hospital and home care team, for their compassionate support over the past few years.
Gerry’s kindness, humor, and boundless love will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
