Born in Mulhouse, France on November 22, 1924 he was the son of the late Jean Robert and Berthe Heydenreich Huck. The family immigrated to New Jersey in 1927 and he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 where he served in the 102nd Division of the 405th Infantry as the number three man on a mortar squad. He received his B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1950 and began his career as a CPA in 1959 working first in public accounting and then for United Aircraft, Sikorsky Aircraft, Sacred Heart University, Assumption College and as a business consultant for General Business Services. From 1990-2000 he and his wife Jean were the owners and proprietors of Windsong Farm Bed and Breakfast on Prince Edward Island, Canada where they made many lifetime friends. John was known for his kindness and deep sense of service to multiple churches and communities. He was happiest when he was helping others in need or spending time with his family. His grandchildren remember him as the kindest, most playful soul they have ever known (and a masterful hide-and-seeker). He inspired them to be the best human beings they can be.
The bond that he and Jean had was one that all young people looking for love could look to and only hope that they could be lucky enough to find. Their love and connection, and the way their eyes lit up when they saw each other, was always an inspiration to those who knew them.
He was pre-deceased by his dear wife of 60 years Jean Riker Huck, his infant son Gregory Paul Huck, and sisters Marianne Dinema and Elizabeth Burns. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Deborah Huck of Fairfield, Maine; his son and son-in-law Michael Huck and Andres Hernandez of Huntington Beach, California, his daughter Lisabeth Huck of Guilford, CT; his grandchildren Matthew Huck of Washougal, Washington and Nicole Huck of Dearborn, Michigan, three nieces, a nephew, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 466 Elm Street, Monroe, Ct at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19th. Burial will be held at the State Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown, Ct. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the John and Jean Huck Memorial Fund at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT.
