

Mary E. [Valentine] Apicella, age 89 of Trumbull, formally of Norwalk , New Canaan and Stamford, entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2016. Born in Columbus, Ohio on June 21, 1927, she was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert Quick Valentine and Jane [Rossi] Valentine. She attended Kansas University and was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. As the beloved wife of the late Francis S. Apicella, she and Frank raised their family of four in Stamford, Connecticut. Before her retirement she was an administrative assistant at Stamford Hospital. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, movies, playing Bridge and water skiing during summer trips to Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire. She was also an avid fan of a variety of music, a love which she passed along to her children. Either she had the radio on or there was a record on the record player. Mary's love of music was paired with a love of dance also. By all accounts Mary was quite charming and had a spirited sense of humor which was evident even through her final days. She was a loving mother, grandmother, a recent great-grandmother and a loyal friend. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter Kathryn Lynch and her husband Christopher Lynch of Trumbull, son Peter Apicella and wife Maria De Lucia Apicella of Hamden, and son Stephen Apicella and wife Lynda Streett of Stamford. Her precious grandchildren will also hold Mary in loving memory: Katherine Palmieri and her husband Michael of Stratford, Brendan Lynch and his fiance Sean Littlejohn of Ridgewood, New Jersey and Ruby Streett Apicella of Stamford in addition to her great grandchild Michael Palmieri of Stratford. She is also survived by 6 nephews and 3 nieces. In addition to her husband Frank she was predeceased by her son Gregory Apicella and her sister Rita [Valentine] Trautwein. The family would like to thank the staff of Jewish Senior Services for their tender care and support of Mary and her family. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday July 11th at St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford followed by interment at St. John's Cemetery, Darien. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, July 10th from 5 - 8:00 PM at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford.
