

Mary Ann Stuart, 68, of Brookfield passed away September 1, 2013. Mary Ann’s passing was pain free and peaceful after a long battle with cancer. Mary Ann was surrounded at passing with love from her family, church members and caregivers. The loving care to Mary Ann’s from Danbury Hospital, Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut and the Bethel Health Care Center was wonderful and deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Steve. She is also survived by son Stephen J. Stuart, Jr. and his wife Tru Love, and grandchildren Corwin Stuart, Hayden Stuart and Dharma Stuart of Los Altos Hills, CA. And by daughter, Barbara S. Sibley and her husband, Rob Sibley, and grandsons, Daniel Sibley, Stephen Sibley, and Brian Sibley of Sandy Hook, CT. Mary Ann’s loving siblings: sister Louise Wanzer, and three brothers, Richard, Franklin and Dudley Roski also survive her.
Mary Ann grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1962. Steve and Mary Ann eloped in 1963 while in college. Later, while raising 2 children, Mary Ann returned to school and graduated from Neumann College in PA in May 1989 with a B.S. in business, summa cum laude with the Tau Award for highest academic honors. Earlier, in 1979 she also earned a Certificate as Lawyers Assistant with honors from Widener University in PA.
Also while raising Stephen, Jr. and Barbara, Mary Ann served her community as a Board of Director Member of the Rose Tree Media School District Media, PA from 1981 to 1989. She also served as Chairperson of the Finance Committee and President from 1986 to 1987.
Mary Ann then turned her attention to service in education working in development (advancement) for The Spence School in New York City, and as Director Alumni Affairs for Cornell University Medical College in New York City. After moving back to the Philadelphia area, Mary Ann served as Director Development for the Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council. Mary Ann’s last position before retirement was as Director of Advancement for The Key School, Annapolis, Maryland. As a result of Mary Ann’s outstanding work, many millions were raised to further the education of children.
When she retired, Mary Ann and Steve moved to Newtown and Brookfield to enjoy participating in the growth of their grandchildren. Mary Ann especially enjoyed her time with her beloved friends in the Newtown Quilts of the Heart group and the Sunset Hills (Brookfield) Seniors Golf Group.
Calling hours are at Spadaccino Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT on Thursday September 5, 2013 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Inurnment for family only is Friday, September 6 at Newtown Village Cemetery. A service celebrating Mary Ann’s life for family, friends and church family is at Newtown United Methodist Church Friday, September 6 at 11:00 am.
