Gloria was born in Snohomish, WA to Fred and Florence Masterjohn. Her family moved to Cashmere, WA when she was a baby. They moved back to Monroe, WA in 1932 where she resided the rest of her life. She graduated from Monroe High School’s class of 1947. Gloria married Charles Etter on November 14th, 1953, where they spent the next 63 years experiencing life and love together. Gloria is survived by her husband, Charles Etter, son, Fred Etter (Leanne), daughter, Rhonda Pocock; grandchildren, Michelle Sonsteng (Jere), Dale Etter (Chelsea), John Pocock and great-grandchild Austin Lankford.
Gloria enjoyed traveling. In her 88 years she had seen many places including Niagara Falls, Australia, Washington DC, Blue Ridge Parkway, Jamestown Williamsburg and Norfolk Navy Base. Being a NASCAR fan, she attended many races in the south where she became acquainted with the Richard Petty Family. Morgan and Cindy Shepard became cherished friends to the Etters. Gloria was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe in 1963 serving as a Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Nursery Manager, Sunday School Secretary and singing in the choir. Gloria was indeed loved, cherished, and respected as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a church member and a friend to many.
Gloria was a woman of God who followed the Christian way. As Jesus was sent as a Savior to all humanity; Gloria could be considered a Savior to her loving family. The Bible simply states "Jesus wept" as he contemplated Mankind; so did Gloria, she wept of the mistrials and troubles of her family and loved ones. As Jesus forgave to the utmost; so did Gloria, ready to forgive with open arms and her love. As Jesus rejoiced over finding one lost sheep; so did Gloria, over events of joy in her family’s lives. As Jesus was ready to carry the burdens of the world; so was Gloria, with her support, love and sympathy in all situations.
Gloria was afflicted with Parkinson’s disease before suffering a stroke that took her blessed life. Gloria was surrounded by the love of her immediate family at Evergreen Hospital and Hospice where she received the utmost and skillful care.
Gloria will be laid to rest in a family-only service at the IOOF Cemetery of Monroe on Tuesday, January 24th at 1:00pm. Following will be a celebration of Gloria’s life open to the public by Pastor Sorgen at the First Baptist Church of Monroe, 17922 149th St SE, 98272, at 3:00pm.
