Jeff was born October 7, 1967, in La Mirada, California. He graduated from Beaumont High School in 1985 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, California. Throughout his childhood, Jeff was a “typical boy” and loved the outdoors, hanging out with his friends and riding his dirt bike. You could often find him working on his dirt bike as he loved to understand the mechanics of how things worked and how to make them better. He had a very analytical mind and solving complex problems always seemed to come easy for him.
After college, Jeff moved to Washington State to be closer to his family. He began his career as a Data Base Administrator with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. Shortly after moving to Washington State, Jeff met and married Marlene (Bauer) and they soon welcomed their only child, Ryan. Jeff loved being Ryan’s dad and although the marriage didn’t last, Jeff and Marlene continued to have a great co-parenting relationship in raising Ryan. Jeff always made it a priority to attend all of Ryan’s birthday parties and sporting events and enjoyed extended visits with Ryan during summers and holidays. When Ryan was 16 years old, Jeff moved to Bothell, WA to live close to Ryan and it was then that Ryan decided to live with his dad and the two of them had 6 wonderful years of bonding and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Their favorite activities were playing video games together and watching animated sitcoms and old western movies as well as some travel trips to places like San Diego and Arizona including the Grand Canyon.
Jeff was incredibly intelligent, and he worked his way into a great opportunity working for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) where he was employed for 15+ years up until his passing and earned many awards and letters of recognition.
Jeff is survived and missed by his son, Ryan Welsh of Monroe, WA, his mother Sharon Welsh of Cottonwood, AZ, and his sister Tami Williams (Husband Craig, son’s Josh, Jacob and Jon and daughter Christa) of Camp Verde, AZ. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Welsh.
Jeff was a devout Christian and because of his analytical nature, he read dozens of books and did extensive research on learning about the history of religion and the story of Christ from many different perspectives. His research created a passion for him within his religion which led him to want to help spread God’s word to others. He donated heavily to non-profit organizations such as Asia Harvest which helps to plant churches among unreachable groups in countries such as China, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that we continue to support this charity that was so close to Jeff’s heart and make donations to Asia Harvest at www.asiaharvest.org.
Gone too soon but never forgotten.
