Nadine Fischer, 86, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2013, at Regency Care Center of Monroe. Nadine was born on October 12, 1926, and was a long time resident of Monroe, WA. Nadine was born in Spokane, WA to parents Stanley and Ruth Blomgren. She was the fifth of seven children and the only daughter of the family. She was delivered by a neighboring farm wife and spent her early years on the Spokane prairie at the family homestead near Hangman Creek. She attended the local two room school house and later graduated in 1944 from North Central High School in Spokane, WA.
Nadine is survived by daughters; Diane Smith, Linda Melnick (Bryan), Nancy Smith (Duncan), and brother, Russell Blomgren. She also leaves nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and a large extended family.
Nadine met her first husband, Robert “Bob” Jelinek, during WWII at a military cafeteria in Spokane. As a young wife, she relocated to Monroe, WA, to the family home which she has lived in for the past 61 years. Four children were born to this happy home Diane, Linda, Bob Jr., and Dale. Lorena Blomgren was embraced into the family as a loving daughter. With the unexpected loss of her husband Bob in 1961, Nadine held her family together with love and strength. She later married Hal Fischer and was blessed with a daughter Nancy. After raising her children, she worked outside of the home at Flower World and a local electronics firm.
During her lifetime, Nadine had a variety of interests. She enjoyed bingo and her monthly pinochle card parties. Nadine and Hal spent many summer days fishing, golfing, and taking long road trips, especially to Reno, which was one of her favorite places to visit. She was involved with the Monroe Eagle’s club activities, where Hal was the manager, and she was an excellent pool player with the Sunset Tavern team. She loved gardening and missed it greatly when health reasons kept her inside. Her later years were spent as an avid Mariners and Seahawks fan. The most important part of Nadine’s life was her home and family. Her grandchildren held a dear place in her heart and grandma’s house was always a special meeting place. She will be forever missed.
She was preceded in death by husbands Bob Jelinek and Hal Fischer, sons Bob Jelinek Jr., and Dale Jelinek, daughter Lorena Swanstrom, son in law Larry Smith, both parents, and five brothers.
