Rowan Anne Dodge was born on October 1st, 2012, to Brendan and Sarah Dodge. Rowan lost her hard-fought battle with cancer on April 22nd, 2022, at the age of 9. She is survived by one brother, Liam. She most recently attended 3rd grade at Dutch Hill Elementary School and made friends easily.
Described once as an “old soul”, Rowan was a shining star and every bit as bright as one. She was shy around strangers, but really knew how to light up a room with friends and loved ones. She enjoyed art and crafting. She refused to let mommy and daddy throw anything away so she could use those things for impromptu craft projects. Although she was a wonderful reader, she would often pop open books and just make up her own stories from the pictures. Rowan loved adventuring and was fearless. When she wasn’t going on night walks in the woods with her daddy and dog, she was kicking butt in taekwondo. One of her favorite things to do was watch the scariest movies she could find and then draw pictures about them. She loved dancing and most recently did ballet. She was able to attend The Nutcracker with her best friend in Seattle last Christmas season. Rowan always insisted on helping with everything. She wasn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and get dirty helping with yard work, shopping, cleaning and especially baking and cooking. She was a shrewd negotiator and usually got what she wanted some way or another, but she also did not complain much. Rowan was resilient and tough and fought hard every day of her life. She dreamed of being reincarnated into a phoenix and she has begun that glorious transition. The next time you see a volcano erupting, look closely and you may see our baby girl blazing brightly on the horizon.
