Rosalie and George Chambers Sr. migrated with their children from Pineville, Louisiana, to Monrovia, California, in October 1956. Dolores Jean Chambers was born to George and Rosalie on June 3, 1960, in Monrovia, California. She was the ninth of eleven sisters and brothers. Dolores graduated from Duarte High School. After graduation, Dolores worked for years processing high roller winning tickets at the Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, where George Chambers Sr. also worked for many years. She loved her job and the excitement and activities of working at the racetrack. At Santa Anita, Dolores met the love of her life and lifelong partner. Dolores and John lived a long and happy life until his passing. When Dolores was not with John, she was always at the family gatherings. Dolores was a fun person to be around. She was always there for birthday parties, barbeques, family gatherings, and a good 'all-nighter' round of spades or dominos.
Words from the family:
Carrie Ann Chambers, sister
"We called Delores DeDe. I remember her coming home from the hospital, and she had the juiciest jaws and a little fat face. Weighing over 10 lbs., DeDe had a heart with love for the family just as big. DeDe was a sweet angel sent from heaven given to Mr. George and Mrs. Rosalie Chambers, and she will truly be missed. God's got you now. Rest easy."
Lionel Chambers, brother:
"Dolores is beyond precious to me. I love her with all my heart and soul."
Alfred Chambers, brother:
"She's my sister. I love her, and may she always rest in God's arms."
Marie Chambers, brother:
"What my baby sister Dolores meant to me: My sister Dolores was a definition of love. Because she believed in love so much, God blessed her with the gifts of giving understanding and forgiveness, we all loved our sister Dolores, and I pray that those gifts that she had would continue to live in us. Thank you all for coming."
Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Rosalie Chambers. Her sisters Gertrude Chambers-Roberson and Helen Chambers; and her brothers Edward Eugene, Louis, and George Chambers Jr. Dolores found her Spiritual Home at a very early age at the Second Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop William L. Dillard. Dolores lived with the Dillard family for several years during her childhood, where she received her spiritual guidance and Christian values. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings Alfred, Arthur, Lionel, Rose Marie, Carrie Ann, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
