Born on September 15, 1947, in Illinois to Peter and Jane Broehl, Kathryn was one of four children: Peter, Larry (who preceded her in death), and Linda. Her life was deeply rooted in family, faith, and service—cornerstones that defined her journey.
Kathryn earned her degree in Physical Education from George Williams College, but her true calling emerged in a 25-year career as a counselor and medical advisor. Her compassion, insight, and dedication touched countless lives. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Kathryn’s faith was her foundation.
For nearly 71 years, Kathryn was a proud and devoted member of the Girl Scouts. Her decades of service, leadership, and mentorship left a lasting legacy. She received more than 75 awards and generously donated her extensive Girl Scout memorabilia collection to the Girl Scout Museum, ensuring her commitment would be remembered for generations.
Kathryn raised four children—Dana, Douglas, Debra, and Dawn—with love, strength, and independence. Later in life, she adopted one of her five grandchildren, Jordan Brooks, and raised him as her own. She was the proud grandmother of five and great-grandmother of two.
Her home was always full of warmth and joy, whether she was leading the family in prayer before dinner, decorating every corner for the holidays, or teaching crafts to anyone eager to learn. A gifted quilter, dedicated teacher, and enthusiastic bowler and camper, Kathryn brought creativity, energy, and generosity to everything she did.
Kathryn was a loving neighbor, a loyal friend, and a true force of nature. Her legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering strength.
A celebration of Kathryn’s life will be held on Friday, July 26, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Live Oak Memorial Park Mortuary, 200 E Duarte Rd, Monrovia, CA 91016. A catered reception will follow. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and honor her remarkable life.
