M.C. Moreland was born in Thompson, Georgia on July 15, 1932 to Annie Grace and Ollie C. Moreland. He was the second child out of seven. There was a total of four boys and three girls. When M.C. was eight years old, he was in the fields picking cotton to help support the family.
When M.C.’s father passed away, he became the man of the house. His oldest brother was already in California at that time. M.C. helped his mom raise his siblings. In 1954, M.C. moved his mother and siblings to California for a better life. He made sure all of his siblings were out of school before he moved out of the house.
M.C.’s first job in California was building track homes in West Covina. In 1955, he found a job at the City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California. He worked in the Microbiology Department. M.C. worked at the City of Hope for 40 years before retiring in 1995.
M.C. met and married his first wife, Juanita, in 1958. They were married for 16 years until she passed away in 1975. Both M.C. and Juanita were baptized at the Arcadia Church of Christ in 1958.
M.C. met Bettye Wesley later that year. While he was doing yard work at home, he noticed her walking down the street to the stores periodically. Because Bettye did not have a car at that time, he offered to give her a ride and she accepted. Eventually, he let her use one of his cars. He began to speak to Bettye about Christ and invited her to worship service. Bettye accepted Christ in 1975 and they were married that year. When M.C. married Bettye, he took on being a father to Bettye’s four children, Jacinto, James, Chris and Winessa.
M.C. was a kind, gentle, loving man, who showed God’s love to everyone.
M.C. preceded in death, his wife, Bettye Moreland. He proceeded his brother, Jerry Moreland and his sister, Viola Moreland.
