Ruben Lozano Nava was born on January 18, 1930 in San Gabriel, CA to Roberto and Catalina Nava of Zacatecas, Mexico. Lorraine Rose Nava was on born August 21, 1930 to Earnest and Josephine Salas of San Gabriel, California.
Despite being born in California, Ruben was very proud of his Mexican heritage and the sacrifices his parents made for him and his two brothers, Raul and Richard. Lorraine and her siblings, Earnest Jr., Virginia, and Genevieve were descendants of the Kizh Nation (San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians).
Ruben attended Lincoln School where he met the love of his life, Lorraine. A true tale of young love, Lorraine and Ruben eloped in 1946 at the age of 16 in Arizona. When they returned to San Gabriel, Ruben was determined to provide the best home for his bride. After much dedication, hard work, and the will to live out the American dream, Ruben and Lorraine purchased their first home in Rosemead, CA, where they raised four beautiful children, Robert, Sandra, Anna Maria, and Edward.
Both Ruben and Lorraine were active members of several organizations. They assisted with raising funds for members in times of need, awarding academic scholarships to local high school students, organizing trips, and hosting holiday parties and dances.
Ruben and Lorraine’s home was bursting with love, laughter, and generosity. They thoroughly enjoyed cooking for and conversing with family and friends (all were welcome in the Nava household). There is no doubt that their ultimate pride and joy was their family.
Ruben and Lorraine are survived by Ruben’s brother, Richard Nava, Lorraine’s sister, Genevieve Swindall, their four children Robert Nava (wife, Mercedes Nava), Sandra Nava (Frankie Sandoval), Anna Maria Peterson (husband, Gregg Peterson), and Edward Nava (wife, Carol Nava), 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Ruben and Lorraine are preceded in death by Raul and Lily Nava, Anita Hernandez, Earnest Jr. and Virginia Salas, Virginia Acuña, and Bob Swindall.
They will be missed immensely by their family and friends. Their legacies will live on forever in our hearts.
