Bert Seaman, a longtime resident of Montevallo, died Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 94. In her final years she was a resident of Danberry at Inverness and Brookdale Senior Living facility in Homewood, AL.
She is survived by her children, Laurel (Lolly) Wenzel of Anderson, SC; David Seaman, Eagle Lake, MS; and Janice Seaman of Montevallo, AL; and granddaughters, Erin Argo Burke (Connor) of Peconic, NY; Samantha Seaman Salter (Matt) of Brewton, AL; Whitney Wenzel of Auburn, AL; and grandson Alexander Wenzel. She also leaves behind great grandchildren, William (Liam) Frisz and Everett Burke of Peconic, NY.
Born in 1930 she grew up in Pawling, NY. Bert graduated from Syracuse University in 1952 and arrived in Alabama in 1954. Moving to Montevallo in 1955, the family joined the First United Methodist Church, remaining a member until her death. A member of UMW Joy Circle, Sunday school teacher, founding member of Prayer Paracletes and outreach were just a few of the hats she wore at church.
After serving as a housewife and raising three children, Bert became a writer and published a community news column, eventually becoming the news editor for the Shelby County Reporter. For three decades her practical and straightforward style earned her many loyal readers.
Photography was another one of her duties at the Reporter and her fearless actions as a sports photographer resulted in her being tackled more than some of the High School football players she covered so closely.
Her active lifestyle continued in retirement with her church work remaining paramount. She was also a member of Showstoppers dance troupe, line dance and Seasoned Readers.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Montevallo First United Methodist Church, 861 Middle St, Montevallo. Interment will be at the Montevallo Cemetery.
To honor Bert's memory: Say a prayer for someone, help someone in need, do a tap dance.
