

Charles Kenneth Gentry, age 64, of Alabaster, Alabama, passed away on December 18, 2020. He was born in Thorsby, Alabama to Charles Monroe Gentry and Emmer Louise Cooedy Gentry. Ken graduated from Thorsby High School in 1975 and served as a volunteer firefighter there for 20 years. He was a Master Mechanic Technician with GM and a licensed Ham Radio Operator with an Amateur Extra class. Ken's call sign is K4VAR. He was a Christian man and a member of Amazing Grace Worship Center in Alabaster.
He was well known for his red truck and practical jokes. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially at Christmas. Once springtime came, he loved grilling out with his friends and family. Most of all, he loved and cared for his wife, Joan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Murray; and stepdaughter, Terene Robinson. Ken is survived by his wife, Joan Rector Gentry; daughters, Rebecca Ward (Doug) and Angelia Soren (Ben); grandchildren, Christian Ward-James, Matthew Murray and Dillon Robinson; great-granddaughter, Coraline James; sister, Patricia Ebrahimi (Essie); several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
His funeral service will be held at Amazing Grace Worship Center on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 1:00 PM with visitation to begin at 11:00 AM. Kevin Blankenship will officiate. Burial will follow at Thorsby Memorial Gardens. Attire is casual and the family requests that all guests wear masks and observe social distancing protocol.
