Charles was born the son of James William and Esta Naomi Graves in Clay, AL on
February 13, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Terry nee Porter; sister
Janice Thompson; and each of his seven brothers, David, Robert “Stevie”, Terry
Wayne, Mark, Billy “Jerry”, Joe, and Jim Graves. He is survived by his daughters
Candice Wilson and Ashley Bailey (Robert); seven grandchildren Kristen (Ryan), Austin,
Justin, Alysson, Stella, Harris, and Scarlett; great-grandchild Katherine; as well as
countless relatives and friends.
He was a US Army Veteran honorably discharged at the
rank of SP5(T) E5. Charles lived in Pleasant Grove for many years, before eventually
settling in Kennesaw, GA to be close to his family. He owned and operated several
furniture stores around the Birmingham area including Pleasant Grove, Homewood,
Hueytown, Hoover, and Pelham. He had a well-known knack for sales. After retiring
from the furniture business, he had an award-winning second career as an auto
salesman at Tom Williams of Birmingham and Leigh Automotive of Tuscaloosa.
But above all else, he was a loving father and friend. Charles simply had a way of lighting
up the room. He was kind-hearted and selfless, the type that “would give you the shirt
off his back”. Whether you called him Uncle Charles, Daddy Charles, Charles Paul,
Charlie, or Skin, everyone that knew him would agree there will never be another one
like him. He will be forever missed and always remembered.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11 at Macedonia
Cemetery in Pea Ridge, AL.
