

Dr. Frank McCoy, age 77, died on July 29, 2016 in Montevallo, AL. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille; his three sons, Kevin, Keith, and Brent; his Grandchildren Brittney Fowler (husband Frankie) and Courtney Goodwin (husband Daniel); his Great grandchildren Jakob and Mason; his sister Jane O’Sullivan (husband Dan); his nieces Laura O’Sullivan and Cathy O’Sullivan Johnson (husband Bruce); his nephews John O’Sullivan (wife Beth), Paul O’Sullivan (wife Christine). He is preceded in death by his loving mother Adelle Eagler. Dr. McCoy was born on January 11, 1939 in August, GA. He proudly served in the Marine Corps before marrying his high school sweet heart in 1960. He received his Ph.D. in Art History from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1980. He was an Assistant Prof. of Art History at Stratford College in Danville, VA from 1969-1974 where he also directed the Stratford in Italy Program. He taught and served the University of Montevallo in Alabama from 1976 – 2001 first as the Chair of the Art Department and then as the Dean of Fine Arts. From 2001 – 2005, he served Newberry College in South Carolina as it’s Academic Vice President. Dr. McCoy was a great family man and a loving father who was active in the community and in his church. He was an amazing and celebrated teacher who inspired thousands of students during his career. His family and friends will always remember his booming and infectious laugh, his larger than life presence, and his engaging sense of humor which he shared with everyone he met. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 2nd at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo, AL. (3715 Highway 25 S.) with a reception to follow at 1:00 PM in Reynold’s Hall on the campus of the University of Montevallo. The Rev. Susan Montgomery of Shades Valley Lutheran Church will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dr. McCoy’s life.
