Mr. George Lawrence Moyers

George Lawrence Moyers of Centreville, Alabama, formerly of Hannibal, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the age of 74, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. George was a devout member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church; he enjoyed helping others, and participated in many volunteer programs such as research studies for Alzheimer disease and delivering Meals on Wheels for the town of Montevallo. House boating, hunting, fishing, and being surrounded by loved ones are just a few of the things George enjoyed, but most notable; George loved to make people laugh, he brought a smile to the faces of everyone he met. Before his passing, George lived his dream of owning a houseboat and making his home on the water. He loved his country and served in the US Navy for four years. Retired from International Harvester after 30 years worked in Rock Island, Illinois and Springfield, Ohio. Mr. Moyers is preceded in death by his parents; Ike and Goldie Moyers; brother, Leo Moyers; and sisters, Neva Jo Ball and Bernadine Earnest. He is Survived by his loving wife of 27 years Gay Ann Haley Moyers; Daughter, Christine Renee Sladek both of Centreville, Alabama; sons, Charles William Moyers of Emerson, Iowa and Jeffrey Lawrence Moyers of Moberly, Missouri; sisters Patricia Peters of Hannibal, Missouri, Claudette Gilmore of Hannibal, Missouri, Bonnie Williams of Hannibal, Missouri, and Gloria Hendren of New London, Missouri; brothers, Bob Moyers of Hannibal, Missouri, Bill Moyers, of Preemption, Illinois, and Dan Moyers of Rock Island, Illinois; his beloved black dog, Steamboat Willie; as well as a multitude of grandchildren, great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him greatly. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM, Followed by the committal service at Alabama National Cemetery and 12:30 PM.
