Jack was born on February 7, 1934, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. He joined the Air Force right out of high school and served four years as an airman specializing in communications during the Korean War. Later, he graduated from the University of Kentucky and entered the business world, working in sales for multinational corporations.
Jack was known for his personality and his love of music and dance. He also had a lifelong affinity for automobiles. As an adult, he professed his faith in Christ—a decision that shaped the values he carried into his later years. In retirement, he enjoyed a peaceful life on a farm, helping with a cattle operation, watching his grandsons hunt, and making new friends. Jack has completed his time on earth and is now experiencing his Heavenly reward!
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth McLean; his brother, Rufus McLean (Melba); and his sister, Nancy Lanning (Speed).
He is survived by his former wife, Patricia McLean, and three sons: Michael McLean (Jo Ann) of Trussville, AL; Joe McLean (Allyson) of Vestavia Hills, AL; and Jeff McLean (Michelle) of Springville, AL.
Jack also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren: Amanda Black (Daniel) of Springville, AL, and their children, McRay and Margo; Brooks McLean (Caroline) of Knoxville, TN, and their son, Tripp; Lee McLean (Emily) of Toronto, Canada; Richard McLean (Carley) of Washington, D.C.; Liz Kowalski (Matthew) of Albuquerque, NM; Taylor McLean of Springville, AL; David McLean of Jacksonville Beach, FL; and Grant McLean of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A military funeral will be held on May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Family and friends are invited to attend.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at the Col. Robert L. Howard Veterans Home for the compassionate care they provided in Jack’s later years.
