Martha Lois Harless Davis

Martha Lois Harless Davis, 91 years old, of Avondale, Alabama, died peacefully on October 28, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jesse (J.D.) Davis. She was also preceded by Elwood and Pauline Harless (parents), brother, Richard Harless, sisters, Peggy Partridge and Jean Partridge and 1 grandson.

Mrs. Davis was born in Shelby County, but lived her adult life in Avondale, Alabama. She is survived by her children: Greg Davis (Cindy), Susan Evans (Bob), Phillip Davis, (Heather) and Cheryl Riley (Terry). Lovingly known as Nanny, she had 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children, with a great grandson due in January 2023. She is also survived by sisters, Ann Morris, Paula Barrier and brother, Ronnie (Janet) Harless.

Mrs. Davis graduated from Thompson High School in 1949. She was employed by J. C. Penney Company for 25 years where she made many special friends.

Mrs. Davis was lifetime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She attended Helena Cumberland Presbyterian Church as a child. She later attended East Lake and Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a Perpetual member of the CPW. Martha loved her family gatherings especially at Christmas time, which she made so special for everyone. Cooking was her niche and she enjoyed baking oatmeal cookies for everyone.

Special thanks to the staff of Lakeview Estates, who cared for mother for the past 18 months and Affinity Hospice for their loving care the past few weeks.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with visitation to begin at 9:30 AM. Guests are invited to join the family following the service for a reception. Pastor Duwayne Pounds will officiate. A private committal will be held at Alabama National Cemetery.
