Born on January 15, 1959, Michael was raised in Greenpond, Alabama, the proud son of the late Walter Lee Rogers and Martha Marie Rogers. One of fourteen siblings, Michael grew up surrounded by family, love, and a deep-rooted connection to the land and life around him.
A devoted father "Daddy" of three and beloved "Pawpaw", Michael was known for his warm heart, generous spirit, strength, and love. He spent over 30 years working as a coal miner at Jim Walters Coal Mines, a testament to his grit, strength, and unwavering work ethic.
Michael had a deep love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures in life — hunting, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, and cheering on his Alabama Crimson Tide. He found peace on the front porch, swapping stories with friends while drinking Bud Light, watching old westerns, and listening to classic rock. He especially loved his faithful dog, Bella.
A master of southern cooking, Michael was known for his mouth watering gravy recipes - from tomato gravy to pepper gravy. Family and friends eagerly awaited his famous deer jerky, grilled chicken, fried fish, and deer meat. He built his forever home at the Strip Pit with his own hands. This special place featured a floating pier, zip lining, and numerous grills, where he hosted countless family gatherings filled with laughter and joy.
