Ronnie Dale Hicks, born on July 22, 1950, passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 75. Ronnie was a resident of Brierfield, Alabama. Ronnie was a first generation college graduate of the University of Mississippi. He was a professional engineer and owned Graystone Engineering. He loved to travel with his wife, Beverly, and was an amateur photographer. He also designed and built their family home. He enjoyed football season, cheering for the University of Alabama and three of his grandchildren in the Million Dollar Band. He also shared a love of history with his grandson, and admired the artistic talent of his granddaughter. Ronnie was a member of Centreville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School director.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, George W. "Bill" Hicks and Dorothy Littlefield Hicks; his infant sister, Nancy Hicks; his brother, Billy Hicks; brothers-in-law, David Kasterke and Mike LeBlanc; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Hicks and Paula Rishel. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly Hicks; children, George Hicks (April) and Mary Hughes (Bryan); grandchildren, Emily Hicks, Sarah Hicks, Bradley Hicks, Eleanor Hughes and Henry Hughes; sisters, Marsha Kasterke, Judy Hawkins (Gary), Janet Barrow (Billy), and Rebecca Milroy (Curt); sister-in-law, Donna LeBlanc; brother-in-law, Edward Keegan; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He will be missed, but his family is thankful he is at home in heaven. He is free at last from Parkinson's disease and in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus! He is visiting with family that went home before him. And because of his faith that he passed to his children and grandchildren, they can confidently know they’ll see him again someday.
Ronnie left a legacy of faith and had an impact so many people. He faithfully served the Lord while he was able and he stood firm on the Word of God and his convictions. He can say with Paul "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." and there is no doubt Jesus told him "Well done, good and faithful servant."
He was loving, funny, intelligent, hard working, and faithful to friends and family. He wasn’t afraid to stand up for what he believed. He spent so much time with his family and was concerned about them, even while he fought for his life in the hospital. His family couldn't ask for a better husband, father, and grandfather. His example of what it means to be a good disciple, son, brother, and friend was an inspiration to all who knew him.
“For we know that if our earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with hands. Indeed, we groan in this tent, desiring to put on our heavenly dwelling, since, when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. Indeed, we groan while we are in this tent, burdened as we are, because we do not want to be unclothed but clothed, so that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a down payment. So we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. In fact, we are confident, and we would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Therefore, whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to be pleasing to him.” (2 Corinthians 5:1–9, CSB)
