

Dr. Morton was born on July 9, 1926 in Ramseur, North Carolina to Andrew C. Morton and Olivia Crutchfield Morton. He graduated from Trinity High School and attended both the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and High Point College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in English and Spanish. Supported by the National Defense Education Act, he received his PhD from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
He served the United States Air Force for 45 years retiring August 2, 2002. He worked as a Scholar in Residence for the Air University’s College for Aerospace Doctrine, Research and Education, published This is Your Air Force (1978) and was a Spanish editor for Air University Press. In addition, he authored and edited many USAF publications by collaborating with multiple military professionals.
He is cherished and survived by his wife Dr. Elba Magaña Morton and sons, Scott Morton MS, Dr. John Morton and Patrick Morton MBA and grandchildren Sarah, Rachel, and Jack Morton.
A memorial mass was held for Dr. Morton at St. Bede's Church on February 13, 2021.
