She was the second of three daughters born to Patrick & Coyette Tucker in Bibb Co. on October 1, 1933. When Bettie was five years old, her father passed away in a terrible wreck. Bettie's mother took her and her two sisters to live with her grandmother in Bibb County and her mother went to Selma to work. This is where her mother met and married her stepfather, Willie Weeden. Her younger sister was born a few years later.
While Bettie was in Selma she got her first job at Kress 5 & Dime store. She later worked as a popcorn and candy girl at the Wilby and Walton Theater. During high school she was a Selmont Drive Inn cashier.
She graduated from Albert G. Parrish High, class of 1951. After working for the telephone company in Selma for a year, she transferred to Montgomery when Selma went dial. There she met & married Bowman Golden. She retired from the telephone company after 41 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers & ABWA.
Her hobbies were poodles and Biloxi.
She grew up in the Church of Christ in Selma, but attended the St. Luke Methodist Church while married to Mr. Golden.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Bowman "Boobie" Golden, parents Patrick & Coyette Tucker and step father Willie Weeden, sisters Melba Tucker Cummings & spouse Darly Cummings, Fredna Tucker Merritt & spouse Joe Merritt, and Linda Weeden Shoemaker. Her sister in laws, Barbara Jackman, Elizabeth Evans, Martha Golden, and Sue Golden Rutland. Her brother in laws, Frank Golden and John Golden; her nieces, Sabrina Baker and Valerie Cummings, and also her poodles, Bessie Peyton, Buffy Jo and Princess.
Survivors include Nieces, Cheryl Sanchez (Phil), Susan Shoemaker (Andy Sizemore); Nephews Derrell Merritt, David Cummings (Lela), Jason Shoemaker & several great nieces and nephews. Bettie also leaves behind her friends, Wanda Lynch Cook, Janet Worrell Hollingshead, Eric Christianson and a special cousin, Patsy Phillips.
A family and friends visitation for Bettie will be held Sunday, February 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a chapel service at 2:00 PM.
