Betty (Elizabeth) Rose Solomon Hilton was born in Selma, Alabama, April 9, 1935, to Willis Earl (Bill) and Margaret (Zuchting) Solomon and her soul left this earth on Janaury 19, 2015 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was a light that lit the hearts of many and all who knew her will miss her presence.
Her career consisted of 36 years as a civilian employee at Craig AFB and Maxwell AFB, retiring in December 1990. She began her second career with the State Department of Industrial Relations, serving in several divisions, the last being Administrative Assistant to the Hearings and Appeals Division Director.
She served as pianist, young adult director and teacher of ninth graders at Selmont Baptist Church. She lived life to the fullest as she spent 17 years working weekends at The Cedars Assisted Living facility and many years at Cedar Crest Nursing Home, and most recently working for John Knox Manor. She served as the President of the DIR Central Office Sub-Chapter of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security. She received her degree in Business Management from Troy State University in 1994, Certified Professional Secretarty, and Associate Degree as Certified Public Manager through Auburn University. She served as president of the Montgomery Area Square Dance Association and was also on the Board of the Alabama National Square Dance Convention. She was a volunteer at the Shakespeare Theater and at the Museum of Fine Arts. She was instrumental in keeping her 1953 graduating classmates up to date by mailing a newsletter each October.
Although she loved the Montgomery Symphony and Davis Theater, and Faulkner Dinner Theater, loved to travel, loved to dance and was an avid reader, her heart was always open to animals that needed a home. Her adoption of many cats over a period of time and several dogs made her happy that she was able to offer them security and lots of love.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Willis Earl (Billy) Solomon and Richard C. (Dick) Solomon. She is survived by nieces and nephews Mitchell Solomon, Kay (Ken) Hicks, Tim Solomon, Michael (Tammy) Solomon, Deebe (Allen) Taylor, Gregg Solomon, Bart (Ruth Ellen) Solomon, Paris (Joe) Donaldson, and Regena (Kenneth) Hill and all their families.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Leak Memory Chapel. Graveside service and burial will be in the New Live Oak Cemetery on Sunday, Janaury 25, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
I hope you'll miss me a little but not too long
For this is a journey that we all must take
We must walk this lonesome
We must walk it by ourselves
Nobody else can walk it for us
We must walk it by ourselves.
