
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 1:30 PM, at Leak Memory Chapel Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside Service at 2:30 PM in Greenwood Cemetery.
Bill was survived by his loving wife of 64 years Louise Lester Church, son Richard L. Nooney, daughters Katherine L. Church and Brenda G. Church. He had four grandchildren, Richard Christopher Nooney, Elizabeth Ann Nooney Fomby, Mary Katherine Creamer Brown and Matthew Cory Noogle and five great-grandchildren, Madeline M. Nooney, Alexis P. Wethington, Kya Lynn Thomas, Kaelyn Joyce Thomas and Carl Timothy “CJ” Brown, Jr. He also leaves behind his only living sibling Mary Doris Church Stuart and multiple nieces and nephews.
Bill was born September 6, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama to Mary Hestelle Bayne and Archie Wyatt Church, Sr. He is preceded in death of his parents and brothers Archie Wyatt Church, Jr., Albert Jackson Church and Clarence Griffin Church.
Bill serviced his country in World War II as a member of the Marine Corps and later with the Marine Corps Reserve. He worked as part of Sunday Dinner sales team for 34 years. He was very active in his community servicing as Boy Scout Master of Troop 104 and a member of the Highland Gardens Men’s Club and loved cooking camp stew with Papa Light and Frank Manior. Until recent years he coached youth bowling and until May 2016 bowled every Wednesday with the 50+ Senior League at Bama Lanes He bowled his last 200 game April 13, 2016.
