
Charles M. Mathews, age 83, passed away at Bill Nichols V.A. Home in Alexander City, AL on January 10, 2015. Leak Memorial Chapel of Montgomery will conduct his funeral with Dale Watts officiating. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 12, AT 12PM with burial following at Darien Cemetery in Luverne, AL. Mr. Mathews was preceded in death by his parents, James Roy and Mamie Elizabeth Mathews, sisters, Virgie Merrell, Pauline Harris, Carmen Williamson, Laurice Cobb, brothers, Malcolm, Milton, James Roy Jr., and William Mervin Mathews. He was also preceded in death by his son, Eddie Mathews. He is survived by his children, Charles M. Mathews Jr., (Pam), Gail Knef (Rich), Sheryl Jean Mathews, and Beth Mecke (Charles), 11 grandchildren and special neice, Betty Deason. His family expresses sincere gratitude to Angela Knight for her dedicated care of their father and also to the entire staff of Bill Nichols V.A. Home. Mr. Mathews graduated from Montgomery County High School, Ramer, AL. in 1949. He started his career in banking in Montgomery, joined Burroughs Todd and relocated to Rochester, N.Y. He later joined Falconer Company Baltimore, MD., eventually becoming President of the firm. He returned to Alabama and spent 10 years with ABS, Montgomery. He finished his career with his own company providing assistance to pharmacies to eliminate outdated inventory for 7 years. He was also Captain in the Alabama National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mathews pallbearers will be Rich Knef, Dusty Mathews, Zack Mathews, Mickey Mathews, Rob McNamara, Charles Mecke, Stephen Larrimore and Chris Hawk. Visitation will be on the same day from 11:00 - 12:00 p.m.
