

Charles Hamilton (Hamp) McPherson, age 77, of Hayneville, AL passed away March 9, 2012, at his home. Born in Tyson AL in 1934, and raised in Tyson, Hamp graduated from Hayneville High School in 1952, and later attended Auburn University. He met his future wife, Louise Julian McPherson, while in high school and was happily married for 57 years. They resided in Hayneville for over 50 years where they both were members of the Hayneville Presbyterian Church. Hamp was very involved with the church and served as a deacon, elder and the treasurer of the church for many years. He was employed by the State of Alabama Highway Department for 44 years where he retired in 1997. He was dedicated to his work and gained many life time friends while with the Highway Department. Hamp was very involved in his community and instrumental in starting Lowndes Academy where his children attended school. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, his hard work ethics, someone that you could always count on to help out, and a true friend.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Julian McPherson; his daughter, Kathryn (Kathy) Louise McPherson; his brother, Greil Patrick (Pat) McPherson, Jr.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Greil Patrick McPherson, Sr.; sister in law Elizabeth (Beep) Julian Till, brothers in law John Bayzer (Bitsy) Julian, Carol (Booley) Rogers, and John Thomas (Tommy) Bender.
He is survived by his two sons Charles (Chuck) Hamilton McPherson, Jr. and his wife Becky, of Birmingham, AL, and Patrick (Pat) Eugene McPherson and his wife Mary, of Burnt Corn, AL; grandchildren, Sara Denton McPherson, Marietta, GA; Charles (Charlie) Hamilton McPherson, III, Auburn, AL; Alexandria Ann McPherson, Birmingham, AL. His surviving sisters and brothers in law are: Peggy McPherson, Frank (Norma) Julian, Helen J. Rogers, Jeanette J. Bender, Jane J. (Robert) Nichols, Connie J. (Edgar) Rittenberry, Buster (Yvonne) Julian, Dwight (Mary Joyce) Julian, Jerry Till and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many other cousins.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Hayneville Presbyterian Church, 145 Tuskeena St. W, Hayneville, Alabama with Rev. Lincoln Speece officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm at the church. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be at the Hayneville Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Charlie McPherson, Sonny Julian, Gary Julian, Robbie Nichols, John Thomas Bender, Julian Rogers, David Rogers, and Dennis Blair.
Honorary Pallbearers are: The Deacons and Elders of the Hayneville Presbyterian Church, Jimmy Davis, Dick Garner, James A. Jackson, David Lyon, Tom Rex Pickens, Jim Webb, and Bill O. Whittle.
