

Cheryl Cobb Speake, of Montgomery, was born June 9, 1955, and went to be with her Lord on August 2, 2024. She attended high school at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, graduating in 1973. She initially attended the University of Houston and then Auburn University at Montgomery, graduating with a master’s degree in education. Cheryl met her husband, George, on Memorial Day weekend, 1983, while he was serving in the Alabama Air National Guard in Montgomery, and they married on December 28, 1984. Cheryl taught at Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery for 10 years. She was a member of Frazer Church and was known for her outgoing and talkative nature, always connecting with others. Cheryl found immense joy playing with her grandchildren as well as being at Lake Martin and Callaway Gardens.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Charles Cobb, and two sisters, Anne Cobb and Catherine Dale. She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, George Speake; mother, Catherine Cobb; daughters, Maurine Speake Batson (Jacob) and Jordan Speake Jenkins (Devin); brother, Howard Cobb; and four grandchildren, Margot Batson, William Batson, Claudia Jenkins, and Samuel Jenkins.
A visitation to remember Cheryl with family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Frazer Church’s East Sanctuary. Her remains will be scattered by her immediate family at a private ceremony.
