

Mr. Colin D. Gilbert, died peacefully at home, on October 17, 2016 in Millbrook, Alabama from complications from ALS. He was diagnosed early last year and the disease progressed very quickly.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Judy Gilbert of Millbrook, AL, his granddaughter, Nora Gilbert and her mother, Jeannie Gilbert of Plymouth, MA. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Dana (Marc) Dendy, and their children, Rachel and Ryan, of Montgomery, AL; and Lee Parrish and his family of Pahoa, HI. He is preceded in death by his son, Dave Gilbert, of Plymouth, MA, and his parents, Robert and Charlotte Gilbert, of Hanover, MA.
Mr. Gilbert was born on February 2, 1948, in Boston, MA, and adopted by Robert and Charlotte Gilbert at the age of four. After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country for twenty-four years until his retirement in 1991. He worked in civil engineering and completed two tours in Viet Nam. After his retirement from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant, he attended Okaloosa-Walton Community College. After graduating he started working for the Boeing Company in Ft. Walton Beach, FL in August 1997 as a technical data illustrator. He retired from Boeing in September 2010, after thirteen years of service. After his retirement from Boeing, his love of driving led him to be a part-time driver for Enterprise Car Rental in Ft. Walton Beach, FL and in Montgomery, AL. On September 6, 2012, he married the love of his life, Judy Gilbert, in Hawaii. They are formerly from Niceville, FL, and moved in February 2015 to Millbrook, AL, to be closer to family.
Mr. Gilbert was a kind and loving man who would do anything he could for his family and friends. He was a giver who tried to take care of everyone around him.. He was an out-going and loyal friend to the many people he encountered throughout his lifetime. Mr. Gilbert enjoyed photograhy, gardening and woodworking, and he also loved working on cars and maintaining his 1991 Mazda Miata.
A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday October 19, 2016 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, AL, located at 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. A private military service and interment will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on October 20, 2016. Flowers will be accepted or a donation may be made in his name to the ALS Association Alabama Chapter. Donations can be sent to PO Box 2888, Huntsville, AL, 35804.
