Daniel Eugene Summers

He is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Summers of Mount Vernon, OH; and

mother, Lillian Ashbrook of Montgomery, AL. He is survived by his spouse, Brenda Summers; children, Darren Summers and Damon Summers (Caroline); grandchildren, Sara Summers (Michael), Aaron Summers, Cross Summers and Brogan Summers; step-children; Katie Luckie (Robert) and Paul Boyles;

grandchildren; Katelyn Perry, Lauren Perry and Madisen Boles; and sister, Debbie Harris (Chris).

Dan/Dad/Papa Dan was a Christian and led many folks to the Lord, a 50 plus year member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church (EHBC), he served as a Deacon, long-time children's Sunday School teacher, served with Carpenters for Christ and many other mission related fields.

Dan graduated from Mount Vernon High School, and Troy University, degree in Business Administration. He served Honorably in the United States Army and United States Air Force, he is a Veteran of the Vietnam War, doing a year-long tour at the USAF Air Base in Tuy Hoa, Vietnam.

Dan worked and retired as an Accountant from the Alabama Department of Agriculture, Boll Weevil Eradication Program.

Many EHBC members and players will recall Coach Summers as the EHBC Royal Ambassadors (RA) Basketball Coach for many years in the 80s. The teams were nicknamed the Jazz, wore blue and gold, and were always a formidable high school basketball team, State Champs, going 34-0. He was an avid bowler and participated on bowling teams in Montgomery in the 70s and early 80s.

Dan's second love (after Brenda) was always officiating and/or coaching sports (softball, baseball, basketball, and football). For 50 years, he was an umpire/coach and referee for all age groups throughout Alabama and a member of the respective State officiating Associations.

Dan/Dad/Papa Dan is in our hearts and will be remembered as a faithful husband, fun Dad, gentle, kind, giving Grandpa, Warrior for Christ, and just an awesome Man.

A funeral service for Daniel will be held on Monday, January 6th, 2025 at 10:00 am with a visitation 1 hour prior at Eastern Hills Baptist Church located in Montgomery, AL 3604 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Montgomery, AL 36109. Following will be a family only graveside service at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
