On May 16, 2018, Danny Eugene Billingsley was received into the presence of his Lord and Savior at the age of 68. Danny’s career as a law enforcement officer spanned 44 years, and he was well respected for his time served at the Montgomery Police Department, the Alabama Office of the Attorney General, and the Wetumpka Police Department, as its Chief of Police. He was equally well respected, however, for his passion to help those who were hurting, underprivileged and in need of the saving grace of our Lord, devoting his life to leading missions trips all over the world to build churches, Bible schools and orphanages. His commitment to those less fortunate also extended to his local community, founding Iron Men Outdoor Ministries, gathering Christmas gifts for needy children, feeding the elderly, sheltering the homeless, and taking seriously ill children to rodeos, fishing and to the races at Talladega.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Eugene Billingsley and Doris Burgess Billingsley Willis; and by Renée Yvonne Billingsley.
He is survived by Dana H. Billingsley; one daughter, Kelli Billingsley Ivey (Shane); one son, Christopher Patrick Moore (Stephan); three sisters: Paulette Wilson Ellis (Ernie), Debra Willis Brown (Les), and Kathy Willis Fisher (Brian); five grandchildren: Lindsie Ivey Adams (Rashard), Perry Slade Ivey, Mason Daniel Ivey, Makayla Loree Moore, and Nathan Christopher Moore; three nephews: Austin Fisher, David Stewart (Ashley), and Johnathan Brown (Tija); three nieces: Stacey Wilson Williams (Joshua), Meredith Brown Castleberry (Dale), and Jessica Stewart Williamson (Jacob); two Great Grandchildren and a host of grand Nieces and Nephews.
Danny was a long time member of Evangel Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Evangel Church, 3975 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, Alabama. Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday May 20, 2018, and one hour prior to the service at Evangel, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MAPS Ministry of Evangel Church or to the Wetumpka Police Department Donation Fund in Danny’s honor.
Pallbearers will be the Honorable Eugene Reese, Shane Ivey, Tommy Ivey, Slade Ivey, Mason Ivey, Todd Ivey, Les Brown and Christopher Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wetumpka Police Department, the Montgomery Police Department, Robert Mozingo, Seth Snellgrove, Brian Taylor, Jack Temple, Brian Fisher and Ernie Ellis.
The family is grateful for the love, prayers and many kindnesses they have received during the past year from dear friends, coworkers and their church family.
