

Dora “Dodie” Metcalf Dawkins McCain, Wetumpka, 87, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2019. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Melvin Dawkins and Angus Bouie McCain; her daughter, Janet Dawkins Thornton; her parents, Herbert and Cora Metcalf; her siblings, Marjorie Metcalf Age, Emma Kate Goodman, Herbert Harold Metcalf, Betty Carolyn Fleming and Billy Mac Metcalf. She is survived by her children, Kim Dawkins Hill and Michael Patrick Dawkins (Jennifer); grandchildren, Elizabeth Dunn (Clay), Abigail Hill Saint (Chris) , Chance LeScott Hill (Megan), Michael Kai Dawkins, Brycen Scott Ledbetter and great grandchild, Mary Elizabeth Dunn; siblings, Charles Lamar Metcalf, Elaine Metcalf Knight, Wyatt Ray Metcalf and Janice Metcalf Lambert.
Dodie was of strong faith. She loved her Lord and family dearly. She also loved sports and was a basketball, volleyball and softball player even into adulthood. She was also an avid Alabama fan. She loved to tell jokes and was even known to play jokes on people. She loved to play board games and bake for her family and friends. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all.
As Dodie faced Alzheimer’s disease, she was fortunate to be cared for and loved by special nieces, Linda Shields and Susan Lambert Melghem, her sister, Janice, and other caregivers, Cyndi Posey, Bobby Stephenson, Peggy Marshall, Jennifer Marshall, Paulette Edwards, Vivian McKenzie and Sandra Humphreys. The family is forever grateful.
Services for Dodi will be Friday, December 6, 2019 at 2 PM at Leak Memory Chapel with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
